CRC ELECTIONS 2016: Interviews with the candidates
On 30 June 2016, UN Member States will gather at the UN General Assembly in New York to elect nine people to the most important children's rights mechanism in the world - the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child. Those selected will replace outgoing members of the 18-strong Committee whose terms expire on 28 February 2017.
CRIN has profiled all of this year's candidates by highlighting their experience in the field of children's rights and collecting their thoughts on key emerging children's rights issues.
The election process
The UN Committee on the Rights of the Child not only has the authority to influence governments' compliance with the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC), but also to interpret and expand on the provisions set in the CRC. Elections to the Committee on the Rights of the Child take place every two years. Committee members are elected for a term of four years.
