Why do you want to be a member of the Committee on the Rights of the Child?
There are so many challenges that children all over the wold face when exercising or trying to exercise their rights under the Convention, and there is still a lot to be done to make children true right-holders. The UN Committee on the Rights of the Child is the highest international body that is dedicated to the protection of children’s rights and to monitoring the State parties’ obligations under the Convention. It would be a great honour for me to engage in child protection with the Committee. For me, it would also be a great opportunity to realize my professional knowledge and my personal concerns on the effective implementation of the provisions of the Convention by the State parties. Three years of my work at the Committee have convinced me that I am in a position to significantly contribute to better protection of children’s rights in different countries.
What do you think are the emerging issues and challenges in the implementation of the CRC?
Please provide 1-2 examples.
- Rights of children involved in migration crisis;
- Rights of children and the digital environment (the main challenge is while providing access of children to digital media and ICTs, ensure children’s safety and protection against risks and harms);
- Rights of disabled children.
