Summary: These guidelines demonstrate some of the
practical implications of adopting a rights–
based approach to programming work with
children.
These guidelines have been prepared as advice to Save the Children UK
staff on the principles and practice of child rights programming (CRP). They
demonstrate some of the practical implications of adopting a rights–based
approach to programming work with children.
The first part of the guidelines aims to give an introduction to rights–based
approaches and to what Save the Children UK means by CRP. This is
followed by a section on putting CRP into practice, highlighting the issue of
children and young people’s participation. The final section provides
guidance on where to look for further material.
The guidelines are illustrated by case studies that draw upon Save the
Children UK’s programme experience across the world. They aim to
demonstrate the challenges and rewards experienced when taking a CRP
approach.
