The UN Committee Against Torture (UNCAT) reviewed the Holy See on 5 and 6 May 2014 as part of UNCAT’s 52nd session. A number of NGOS, including the World Organization Against Torture (OMCT) and CRIN, advocated for UNCAT to include child sexual abuse in the Catholic Church as part of the Holy See’s review. The NGOs were successful.
As part of our efforts to be transparent and make other organisations (including the UN) as open as possible, we do our best to publish notes of UN sessions that we attend. These “unofficial minutes” where produced by OMCT and CRIN.
Further information:
- CRIN’s campaign: End sexual violence in religious institutions;
- Read the OMCT and CRIN’s alternative report for the Holy See which was submitted to the UNCAT prior to the review;
- All official documents, including the Holy See’s report and alternative reports by other NGOs, can be found on UNCAT’s session page.
