Summary: This lesson is part of the 72-page

of Diversity", which provides an in-
depth look at issues of racial and
ethnic diversity in the United States. This lesson is intended for 9-12 and the lesson is linked to civics
and U.S. history standards. In this lesson, students examine the
civil rights movement of the 1950s and 1960s. First, students
read and discuss a short history of the civil rights movement.
Next, in a small-group activity, students apply a diversity checklist
to four hypothetical case studies involving contemporary
