Planning for children in care in Northern Ireland

Summary: Planning to meet the individual needs
of children in care is widely
recognised as necessary to promote
their welfare and ensure them a secure
future.
"Planning to meet the individual needs of children in care is widely
recognised as necessary to promote their welfare and ensure them a
secure future. This is a requirement of the Regulations accompanying
the 1995 Children (Northern Ireland) Order which came in effect
towards the end of 1996
Planning for Children in Care in Northern Ireland examines practice
prior to the implementation of the Order, including planning for
young people resident in Training Schools. It blends facts and
figures with the comments of parents, social workers and the young
people themselves about their experiences and review meetings.
Based on research across the region the report identifies issues
which need to be addressed and ways in which social workers can work
in partnership with parents and involve children and young people
more effectively in the planning process"
