Foundation
The Women's World Summit Foundation is an international, not-
for-profit, lay, humanitarian NGO working for the implementation
of women's and children's rights and for a new development
paradigm in the 21st century.

Among its annual world campaigns are:

1. PRIZE for women's creativity in rural life. Created in 1994 for
the purpose of honouring creative, courageous women and
women's organisations enhancing the quality of life in rural
communities. 210 awards have so far been awarded with US$
500 per laureate. Every year on 15 October (World Rural
women's Day) an award ceremony and Panel discussion with 5 or
6 selected prizewinners is organised at the UN in Geneva.

2. WORLD RURAL WOMEN'S DAY - 15 October - an annual global
awareness campaign to increase knowledge and empowerment.
NGOs lobby governments for official recognition and proclamation
of the Day as a national Day. WWSF annually publishes and
disseminates an OPEN LETTER TO RURAL WOMEN OF THE WORLD.
The year 2001 theme for the Day is "Protect your traditional
knowledge".

3. WORLD FUND FOR THE DIGNITY OF CHILDREN. To help end
their sexual exploitation And educate to prevent such practices.
Created as a follow-up to the urgent call for action launched at
the 1st World Congress in Stockholm, members of the Fund have
selected 14 rehabilitation and prevention programs to be
sponsored with the proceeds of the Fund since 1997.

4. WORLD DAY FOR PREVENTION OF CHILD ABUSE - 19
NOVEDMBER Created and launched on 19 November 2000 in
Geneva in reaction to the increase of child abuse reported by the
media, especially sexual, and with the purpose to create a
synergy with the International Day for the right of the child - 20
November, the Day has catalysed an international coalition of
NGOs and child rights organisations committed to mark the Day in
the year A global poster and campaign letter is being mailed
around the world to generate increased awareness and the need
for urgent action, and provide prevention skills for exposed
children. A PUBLIC BRIEFING "PROTECTING CHILDREN FROM
ABUSE" was published last year and mailed to relevant
organisations around the world. Many countries have adopted
the information nationally and locally. The programs of coalition
members for the year 2001 will be put on the web (under
construction). We have lobbied governments at the third prepcom
of UNGASS to proclaim this Day a national Day and work together
with NGOs and the media to alert their citizens of this
unacceptable trend in society. The year 2001 program for 19-20

5. WWSF publishes a GLOBAL NEWSLETTER "Empowering women
and children" and the edition No. 10 is in print. The Newsletter
reports on activities and projects of WWSF and carries the four
global campaign messages.

6. WWSF has a web site www.woman.ch which gives additional
information on its empowerment programs for rural women and
children.

7. WWSF has a Board of 8 Directors who meet annually to discuss
its programs and future activities.

8. WWSF enjoyed ECOSOC AND UNFAP consultative status.
