Summary: During the Special Session on
Children, the NGO Steering Group
initiated a Commitment Chart to
demonstrate the range of concrete
commitments made by governments,
UN Agencies, NGOs and other official
participants. The commitments were gathered from a variety of sources,
including missions, interventions at the Committee of the Whole,
plenary sessions, workshops, and other meetings, and from
representatives who passed by.
The second/follow-up stage of the initiative is to distribute the
chart as widely as possible, enabling NGOs to monitor, track and
keep the list of commitments growing. The NGO Committee is
keen to gather feedback on the following:
-Commitments made by organisations;
-Government activities regarding National Plans of Action; and,
-How the Commitment Chart can be used as a monitoring tool.
