European and Central Asian Youth Poll, April/May 2001: Two UNICEF regional offices – GRO and the Regional Office for Central and Eastern Europe, Commonwealth of Independents States and the Baltics, along with PSD – have coordinated a European and Central Asian youth poll involving 35 countries (including 17 NatCom countries), conducted by a professional polling company. Sample groups of children aged between 9 and 17 have been polled on a wide range of issues. National analysis will be provided in addition to a regional overview of results. Final results are expected by the end of April in time to be launched at the Conference on Children in Europe and Central Asia in Berlin. TACRO undertook a similar poll in 2000; this has been seen as a great success at both political and media levels. EAPRO, ROSA and MENA are also undertaking similar polls, and there is thus potential for a major analysis of results at a more global level. In Europe, the youth poll is the largest poll of children ever undertaken, and this provides great opportunities for media profile.
