Summary: This report is the speech given by children and young people at the end of the East Asia Pacific Regional Forum. News release Vientiane to New York. 26 July 2001, Vientiane - The East Asia Pacific Children and Young People's Regional Forum II was held in Vientiane, LAOS PDR from 23-26 JULY 2001. It's objectives were to suggest guidelines and select delegates for United Nation General Assembly Special Sessions on Children (UNGASS) in New York. It was attended by 34 children from 10 different countries. In doing so, we emphasize that today's children are tomorrow's future generation thus they should be enabled and equipped to achieve their full human potential and enjoy the full range of human rights. The participants has identified, HIV/AIDS, a decrease in family values, trafficked and prostituted children, school dropout and birth registration as the main issues in this region but the list does not stop here. Each individual country has their own main concerns too. In the forum, the children and young people, through workshops had successfully come out with suggestions and guidelines to counter the arising concerns. Among others are introducing reproductive health education into the school curriculum, ban corporal and capital punishment, and resource management. The children and young people also expressed their opinions on reactions to the Beijing Declaration, and now are looking forward for the Ministers in each country to implement it. In addition the whole process of the forum was packed with games and exciting activities from different countries. The children and young people also had a wonderful night showing their various cultures from their respective countries. The forum ended with a successful selection of delegates to New York. They also have planned activities to follow-up after the Special Sessions on Children, regional action in forum III. The delegates will bring the hopes and dreams the children and young people of this region to United Nation General Assembly Special Session on Children in New York , to aid the government in planning their plan of action in the near future. pdf: www.crin.org/docs/resources/publications/Alliance_EAPClosing.pdf
