accumulated knowledge, skills and experience
on a global platform on the subject of child
trafficking, in order to be more effective in the
war against trafficking.
Governments, organisations and activists involved in the global campaign
against human trafficking require information that is reliable and current to
develop and adjust their programming.
The new digital library www.childtrafficking.com is a Nepal-based internet
platform that provides, on one dedicated website, the tools that are
needed to tackle a complex phenomenon that does not lend itself to easy
answers.
The website is based in a developing country, one of the poorest in the
world, that is the source for as many as 14,000 children whom are
trafficked to India and other states.
The website avoids moralism and ideology, and instead presents studies
and reports founded on hard research, and informed by the experiences of
people working in the front lines.
All forms of trafficking are addressed, including trafficking for labour
purposes. The website focuses on children, and includes the latest
information on strategies for trafficking prevention, as well as the
rehabilitation and reintegration of victims of trafficking.
The website includes more than 232 country studies on human trafficking.
The studies and research reports cover Asia and beyond, including Africa,
Europe, the Americas, and Oceania. In all, more than 105 countries are
listed. The oldest report is from 1886, and deals with Canadian girls and
young women who were brought to the United States for the purpose of
prostitution.
Around 150 conventions, laws, policies, proposals and commentaries are
found under the section entitled "Laws", the oldest legislation dating from
1833.
More than 50 documents deal with country papers on sex work, children of
sex workers, sex tourism and pornography.
HIV/AIDS is carefully documented, and covers aspects relating to research,
protection of children, and medical ethics.
Approximately100 links to the world's leading anti-trafficking websites are
found, as well as an indexed list of resources, including a photo gallery of
the trafficking nexus between Nepal and India.
The website has taken all necessary precautions to ensure the
confidentiality of information relating to victims of trafficking, and to ensure
that sources are authentic and verifiable. All images have been carefully
screened.
www.childtrafficking.com will be regularly updated and invites
contributions, comments and criticism from those who make use of the
service.
