Center for the Child Worker and his Local Community

The overall aim of the project is to encounter the phenomenon of children's work by different approaches:
1. Giving a model of an NGO that is dedicated to child worker's best interest, by experiencing its aims and measures in the ground. In addition to promote its mission and vision through this experience, on one hand, and presenting the working children's points of view, on the other hand.

The Center mision vision and philisophy

The Center for the Child Worker and his Local Community aims at dealing with societal issues related to, or, concerning the child workers in theory and practice. It adopts approaches and methods directed by our philosophic standpoints & scientific literature in the domain on one hand, adjusted by the result of programs & projects applications and the lived field experiences, on the other hand.

We can crystallize areas of the center activities and, axes of intervention strategies (hoped to be carried on) as follows;
   à        Preventing the phenomenon: by developing poor & marginalized communities, confronting sources & causes of child labour and, raising awareness of the problem’s implications on child and society.
   à        Protecting child worker, by conducting projects of partial or comprehensive care &development: these types of projects include education, cultural programs, leisure & sports, and programs of social & health care.
   à        Contributing to the elimination the phenomenon: by helping local authority in implementing & enforcing the low. Encouraging children who work in dangerous or very dangerous conditions, to move to acceptable, safe & promoting ones, alleviate their trade levels. Enable them to work under conditions approved by the law, and, raising awareness about children rights among children, their parents & employers.
   à        Rehabilitation: by giving working children - or children who left dangerous work - educational and/or training opportunities. Psychological consultation for children who find difficulties in accommodation with their local community members is also an important matter in this area.
   à        Scientific research accompanying social work: which is necessary for deepening understanding and finding better mechanisms for social work between target groups and those related to them.
   à        Training social workers: by giving social workers theoretical and practical experiences, which qualify them to deal efficiently with target groups.
   à        Regulating theoretical issues concerning pedagogical services given to marginalized communities: the most important issues among these are; to find a formula between centralized and de-centralized educational services. To approach the educational text on one hand, and the cultural message of popular classes, or their thoughts expressed in their discourses, on the other hand. And, to design non-formal educational programs, training one according to the vision of the target groups.
Our programs and projects depart from the following philosophical stands
 A.      We lean on the critical and liberal thought of adult education (andragogie): the center is one of the partner agencies in the “Ecumenical Committee for Literacy Programme” (which is the specialized agency to apply Paulo Ferrari's Thoughts in Egypt). It contributes to all its activities on one hand, and tries to design cultural and pedagogical programs according this thought on the other hand.
 B.      Integration and comprehensiveness of our projects & presentation to child worker (and affiliated target groups): for example there will be a combination between literacy classes, nutrition, programs of health care and leisure activities in the center. (Our programs are divided in a chronological serial order, and in matrix form or content each year)
 C.      The center takes on its shoulders the responsibility of bearing the real cost of educating working children, and presenting some necessary services to them: which is their right, badly offered by the state agencies. (the center will try to profit and mobilize local resources to fulfill the distribution issue)
 D.      Working at the micro level and its benefits: our endeavor is to implement the idea of delivering services to the deserving people and groups, because the educational formal school system that is based on centralizing its service does not enable marginalized groups to benefit from it. On the other hand; working at the micro level enable us to avoid problems resulting from the educational curriculum applied currently in schools, as well as its mechanisms based on ideas such as the average capabilities and intelligence. Finally, there are many benefits, which can be noticed by working at the micro level & with small groups; that is friendship, deep relations between tutors or social workers and children. Under such circumstances, it is easy to create a healthy democratic climate. Accordingly, necessary socialization process needed for our target groups can be facilitated.
  E.      Creating a network organization and working by interdisciplinary staff-group: (This kind of organization will be suited to the activity on the micro level, which will lead us to avoid the disadvantages of the bureaucratic hierarchic organizations).
  F.       Child participation in our activities and Programs or projects design & evaluation will be ascending.
