SLOVENIA: Round Table on Separated Children in Slovenia (7 June 2005)

Summary: SEECRAN organised a round table on
separated children in Slovenia with the co-
operation of the Netherlands Embassy in
Slovenia and the Information Documentation
Centre of the Council of Europe in Ljubljana.

On 7 June, SEECRAN organised a round table on Separated Children in
Slovenia with the co-operation of the Netherlands Embassy in Slovenia and
the Information Documentation Centre of the Council of Europe in
Ljubljana. At the round table the theme was discussed by the
representatives of the Ministry of Labour, Family and Social Affairs, Centre
of Foreigners, Asylum Home and other government organisations working
on this issue as well non-governmental organisations, specially Slovene
Philanthropy.

The problem of separated children was already mentioned in the
Alternative report, prepared by SEECRAN in co-operation with 14 NGOs in
2003. Read the document: href='http://www.seecran.org/resources/reports/doc/alternativereport.doc'
>Comments on the Second Periodical Report of the Slovenia on the
Implementation of The Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Some of the round table's main conclusions were:
- There is a need for a system developed for support and help to
separated children in Slovenia; the main support, specially financial
support, should be provided by the state and respective ministries;
- There is a need for housing capacities for these children and youth
and/or a network of these capacities.
