Session 58
The 58th Session of the Committee on the Rights of the Child (CRC) took place from 19 September to 7 October 2011.
The Committee examined CRC State Party reports from Iceland, Italy, Panama, South Korea, Seychelles and Syria. It also examined Sweden's compliance with the Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child on the sale of children, child prostitution and child pornography (OPSC).

New guides on child participation
The NGO Group for the CRC has launched two guides to facilitate child participation in reporting to the Committee on the Rights of the Child.

Children's Rights and Business
The Committee on the Rights of the Child (the Committee) and the International Commission of Jurists (ICJ) held an expert meeting on children's rights and the business sector in September 2011.
The aim of the meeting was to begin discussions with a number of relevant organisations with a view to drafting a General Comment.
Children of Incarcerated Parents
This year's discussion day of the Committee on the Rights of the Child, on 30 September, was on the issue of children of incarcerated parents, as outlined in Article 9 of the CRC. Over 200 representatives, from civil society to governments, participated in the discussions.
Two Working Groups were set up to: a) address issues related to babies and children living with or visiting a parent in prison, and b) focus on all aspects of the impact of a parent's incarceration on children who remain on the outside.
Children living and / or working on the street

The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) is organising an expert meeting on children living and / or working on the street, as requested by the Human Rights Council during its debate in March this year.
Key issues concerning street children will be discussed and contribute to the final report being compiled by OHCHR, which is due to be presented to the Human Rights Council at it's next regular session. Find out more about the meeting, here.
