Good journalists are vital for an open and transparent society. You are the people posing the difficult questions to governments about how they treat their citizens and others around the world, sometimes at a great risk to your own personal safety. A lot of you are influential and tenacious human rights defenders.
Like you, CRIN believes in the search for the truth, access to information and accountable governments.
- Join our campaign for transparency in the appointment process for top jobs in children’s rights.
We want to work with journalists interested in reporting on a range of children’s rights issues, so please email us for interviews, statements and analysis.
Please also get in touch for further information or advice on ethical reporting when it comes to children, as well as to give us feedback on our work and how we can better help you protect and promote children’s rights.
Resources for you
For advice on fair and ethical reporting of children’s stories access our media toolkit. It includes guidelines on how to work with children in a way that respects their rights and unique vulnerabilities.
We have also produced a guide to applying a rights based approach to children for journalists. A rights based approach comes from the notion that children are rights holders, and that for real change to happen the focus must be on promoting and protecting their rights - not just treating them as objects of charity. The guide for journalists includes tips for helping to change social attitudes towards children, and advice on how to avoid reporting techniques that may harm children. It is not designed to tell you how to do your job, but rather to give you the tools to understand how children’s rights fit into it.
Below are some additional resources dedicated to people who work in the media. Please email us with your feedback on these, as well as suggestions for further resources we could look to produce.
