At its 16th session (Geneva, 22 September - 10 October 1997)
the Committee on the Rights of the Child devoted a day of
general discussion (6 October 1997) to the theme "the rights of
children with disabilities ". As for previous thematic discussions,
the Committee invited representatives of United Nations organs,
bodies and specialized agencies, as well as other competent
bodies, including non-governmental organizations, research and
academic organizations and individual experts, to contribute to
the discussion. Several organizations and individual experts
submitted contributions and other relevant documents on this
theme.
