Who Cares? Discussion Forum

Summary: HelpAge International has recently set up a discussion forum on the issue of caregivers and HIV and AIDS.

Ninety per cent of AIDS-related care takes place in the home and the  majority of vulnerable children affected by AIDS are looked after by family members, particularly women and often older women. Yet care issues and the burden of care are not a priority in the current international agenda and consequently crucial resources and support are not reaching the caregivers and their families. This discussion group provides a space for participants to keep each other informed of our respective work and to use our experience as a resource for international and local advocacy to raise the visibility of caregivers, and increase recognition of their role and thereby improve
support to them.
