UPR: Full list of child rights recommendations rejected

Summary: As part of CRIN's research on children's rights in the Universal Periodic Review, we have compiled a list of all children's rights recommendations rejected by States in the first cycle of the new review mechanism.

The list of children's rights recommendations rejected by States in the Universal Periodic Review is important for child rights advocates trying to discover what a particular government's stance is on a given issue.

The UPR process

After their review in Geneva, States are obliged to outline their position on each of the recommendations issued to them by fellow UN Member States (whether they accept or reject the recommendation).

Opportunity for NGOs

The UPR hence offers child rights advocates the opportunity to learn the position taken by their government on particular issues, and hence are in a position to know whether to apply more lobbying to those issues which are rejected, or to ensure that those recommendations that are accepted are indeed implemented in the period following the review.
