UNICEF: Humanitarian Action for Children 2012 report

The report highlights the efforts UNICEF undertakes to fulfill the rights of children in humanitarian situations around the world.

A children’s famine in the Horn of Africa; massive flooding and internal displacement of millions in Pakistan … These were the 2011 humanitarian crises that attracted the attention of the global audience. There were other, long-standing and “silent” emergencies that escaped public notice but nevertheless resulted in tremendous humanitarian need – and UNICEF was on the spot to meet the urgent needs of children and their families.

As stated in the Humanitarian Action for Children 2012 report, US $1.28 billion is needed this year to fund humanitarian operations to assist children in more than 25 countries globally. The publication summarizes key humanitarian challenges and the results of the organization’s interventions in 2011, as well as plans and associated funding requests for the coming year.

In times of crisis, the world’s most vulnerable become even more so.
