TUNISIA: Children's Ombudsperson

Summary: Information about institutions in Tunisia that monitor children's rights.

Children's Ombudsperson

The Tunisian High Committee on Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms was established by Decree No. 54 of 7 January 1991, and is responsible for monitoring human rights nationally. As of June 2008, however, there was no specialist unit to address the rights of children. The Committee on the Rights of the Child has expressed concern about the lack of information available about the effectiveness and mandate of the High Committee.
