SRI LANKA: Children's Ombudsperson

Summary: Information about institutions in Sri Lanka that monitor children's rights.

Children's Ombudsperson

Sri Lanka has a National Human Rights Commission responsible for the monitoring of human rights nationally, although as of 2010 it had no bureau specifically for children's rights. In December 2007, the International Co-ordination Committee of National Institutions for the Protection of Human Rights downgraded the rating of Sri Lanka's Commission in response to concerns about the appointment procedure for commissioners, and its lack of independence from political influence.
