Summary: Information about institutions in Senegal that monitor children's rights.
Children's Ombudsperson The High Commissioner for Human Rights and the Promotion of Peace (Haut Commissariat aux Droits de l'Homme et à la Promotion de la Paix) exists within the office of the President, and holds a mandate that allows it to receive complaints from children. The Committee on the Rights of the Child, however, has expressed concern at the lack of independence of this institution. At the time of the Committee's 2006 Concluding Observations, the State reported that it was in the process of creating the National Independent Observatory on the Rights of Women and Children, a body that came into existence in December 2008. The Committee has not yet examined the Independent Observatory to establish its compatibility with the Convention on the Rights of the Child.
