Children's Ombudsperson

The Ombudsman Act 2013 re-established the Office of the Ombudsman with a division specifically mandated to work on human rights issues, including those that arise under the Convention on the Rights of the Child. With regards to human rights, the Ombudsman is required to promote public awareness of human rights; to inquire into, and report on, alleged violations of human rights; to monitor and promote compliance with international and domestic human rights law, including the Convention on the Rights of the Child; to participate in judicial proceedings as a friend of the court or as a party to the proceedings; as well as to conduct other activities identified in section 33 of the Ombudsman Act.

The Committee on the Rights of the Child is yet to review the newly formed Ombudsman's Office for Compatibility with the Convention.
