Over 110 representatives of NGOs and civil society met in New Delhi
in September 2000 to prepare a national recommendation for the
preparatory meetings and the special session.

The forum developed a set of recommendations in consultation with for
girl child workers/ and children's economic social and cultural
rights in September 2000. Key issues referred were the government
policies for girls, domestic violence and violence in the schools
with children, sexual exploitation and trafficking. The document
prepared out of this meeting was the result of three days extensive
discussion among NGOs.

This effort was supported by the National Human Rights Commission of
India and was attended by UNICEF and UNESCO representative. WHO
special adviser also addressed the session on AIDS/HIV in November
2000 special meetings were held in four different locations to
highlight the problems of girl child with the media.
