Summary: HRW has documented many gender-
based human rights abuses in Africa
that fuel the epidemic and make
unbearable the lives of women and
girls already living with HIV/AIDS. Our
research is based largely on the
moving and often horrifying stories
told to us by African women and girls
who have suffered abuse.
