Summary: Proceedings of the International Save the
Children Alliance Regional workshop on
corporal punishment of children, 5-9 April
2004, Bangkok, Thailand.
This Report documents the International Save the Children Alliance
Regional Workshop, National challenges, resource and information needs
in addressing corporal punishment of children in Southeast Asia Pacific,
held in Bangkok (Thailand) from 5 to 9 April 2004.
Presentations and discussions focused on defining a clear course of action
for addressing the corporal punishment of children in national contexts.
The decisions reached in the Workshop led to concentrated work in
succeeding months, preparing for the development of national projects to
promote non violence in families and positive discipline in schools, as well
as producing awareness-raising and training materials for children, adult
professionals and the general public. This Report is designed to be used as
resource for understanding the corporal punishment of children and for
supporting action in both regional and national contexts, providing an
illustration of the pro-active work of Save the Children in addressing the
corporal punishment of children.
