MALI: Children's Ombudsperson

Summary: Information about institutions in Mali that monitor children's rights.

Children's Ombudsperson

The National Commission on Human rights (Commission Nationale des Droits de l'Homme) was established in 2006, but in reviewing the system in 2007, the Committee on the Rights of the Child expressed concern that the body had been provided with insufficient human and financial resources to fulfil its functions. The Committee also expressed concern about the lack of information on whether and how the Commission had dealt with complaints on or on behalf of children. The Committee urged the State to ensure that the Commission is accessible to children, including by establishing a separate unit for children and by training staff to investigate complaints made by or on behalf of children.
