KIRIBATI: Children's Ombudsperson

Summary: Information about institutions in Kiribati that monitor children's rights.

Children's Ombudsperson

In its 2006 Concluding Observations, the Committee on the Rights of the Child expressed concern that there was not independent mechanism to monitor, regularly evaluate and report on the implementation of the Convention on the Rights of the Child in Kiribati. The Committee urged the State to consider establishing a national human rights institution, “including [through] the nomination of an ombudsperson for children with adequate human and financial resources to promote and strengthen accessibility for children and to enable children to submit complaints.”
