 Children's Ombudsperson

The Child Care and Protection Act (CCPA) established the Office of the Children's Advocate in 2004. The powers and duties of the Advocate are laid out in the First Schedule of the CCPA, and include reviewing the adequacy and effectiveness of the law and practices relating to the best interests of children, making recommendations to Parliament and Ministers regarding its reviews and receiving and addressing complaints. The Committee on the Rights of the Child has not yet examined the Advocate's Office to determine its compatibility with the Convention on the Rights of the Child.
