Interviewing Children, their Guardians, and Staff of Juvenile Detention Facilities

Given the risks faced by juveniles in detention and its damaging impact on a child’s development, PRI’s work places considerable emphasis on juvenile justice reform and has done since its inception. Its activities focus on diverting children from the adult justice system, promoting alternative sanctions to imprisonment and, where imprisonment is used, improving conditions of detention. In order to do this, interviewing childrenwho are deprived of their liberty, their guardians and staff of juvenile detention centres is vital in getting a full understanding of the situation in a country.
