Children's Ombudsperson
Iceland's Ombudsperson for Children operates under Act No. 83/1994 with the role of “improving the children's lot, as well as safeguarding their interests, needs and rights”. The Ombudsperson is not, however, empowered to receive individual complaints. The Committee on the Rights of the Child has recommended that the Ombudsperson be given the competence to handle individual complaints and the necessary resources to fulfil this role.
