HRI's summary of the publication
This thesaurus of human rights terminology has evolved from
many years of experience in human rights documentation
management. Both Human Rights Internet and the Human Rights
Research and Education Centre at the University of
Ottawa have been developing extensive collections and
databases for at least ten years.
The Thesaurus is conceived as an indexing tool for use by human
rights documentalists throughout the world. It can also
serve as an overview of the vast and fluid area of human rights
and help to define the horizons of those working in the field.
We have included citations from relevant international human
rights instruments and other descriptive material, in some
circumstances going beyond the usual role of an explanatory
note. In this way, this terminology tool has the appearance of
a thematic lexicon.
