Children's Ombudsperson

Gabon established a National Commission on Human Rights (NCHR) in 2000 (Decree No. 01037 of 7 November 2000) alongside a National Committee for Children which operates under the authority of the Minister for Justice. The Committee on the Rights of the Child has expressed concern at "the lack of clarity of the role of the Commission and the Committee". The CRC recommended that the State expedite the establishment of an office within the NCHR to monitor the implementation of the Convention and empower that office to receive and investigate complaints of child rights violations.
