Summary: Information about institutions in France that monitor children's rights.
Children's Ombudsperson France has a general Ombudsperson (Défenseur des droits) and a National Consultative Commission of Human Rights (Commission Nationale Consultative des Droits de l'Homme), which both play a role in monitoring and implementing the CRC. The Ombudsperson is able to receive individual complaints and the CNCDH has an advisory role with regards to legislation related to children's rights. Until 2011, France had a separate Ombudsperson for Children (Défenseur des enfants), but this post was abolished and folded under the general Ombudsperson. The Committee on the Rights of the Child has not yet commented on this shift, but it has in the past expressed concern that "the independent monitoring institutions are not regularly consulted on draft legislation".
