FIJI: Children's Ombudsperson

Summary: Information about institutions in Fiji that monitor children's rights.

Children’s Ombudsperson
In its Concluding Observations of 1998, the Committee on the Rights of the Child was critical of the lack of an independent complaint and monitoring mechanism for children in Fiji. The Human Rights Commission has since been established by Decree No. 11 of 2009, with a mandate which includes conducting investigations into allegations that an individual's human rights have been contravened. The Committee is yet to review the Human Rights Committee with regards to its compatibility with the Convention on the Rights of the Child.
