DOMINICA: Children's Ombudsperson

Summary: Information about institutions in Dominica that monitor children's rights.

Children's Ombudsperson

In its 2004 Concluding Observations, the Committee on the Rights of the Child expressed concern "at the absence of an independent mechanism with a mandate to regularly monitor and evaluate progress in the implementation of the Convention and which is empowered to receive and address individual complaints". The Committee recommended that in addressing this concern, Dominica establish such a body to monitor the implementation of the Convention, address complaints from children and provide remedies for violations of children's rights. As of 2012, no such body had been created.
