Concluding Observations and Recommendations on the Initial Report of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC)

Summary: This report compiles all mentions of children's rights in the Concluding Observations of the African Commission on Human and Peoples' Rights.

Last Examined: 6-20 November 2003

The Report was presented by the Minister of Human Rights.

 

The Commission raised concerns about:

  • The continued existence of child soldiers in the DRC is still rampant. (Paragraph 21)

 

The Commission recommended that :

  • Take all appropriate measures to protect the rights of the child by

    ensuring disbanding and prohibition of child soldiers. Such measures

    should include programmes for the rehabilitation of the former child

    soldiers; (Paragraph 27)
