The Treaties and Commission Branch of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in Geneva, in cooperation with a host government, organises regional and sub-regional workshops to follow up on implementation of the Concluding Observations of the treaty bodies. The objective of such workshops is to raise the awareness of Government officials and other stakeholders with respect to the Concluding Observations of the Committee of the Rights of the Child and further promote their implementation. It provides a chance to better understand the achievements and constraints in implementing child rights and the United Nations CRC recommendations at country level. The workshops focus on a number of countries within a region or sub-region. Participants at the workshops include governmental officials, representatives of national human rights institutions, non-governmental organisations and representatives of United Nations agencies, funds and programmes. The following workshops have so far been organised with regard to the Concluding Observations of the Committee on the Rights of the Child: Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso (7 - 11 November 2007) San José, Costa Rica (30 October - 1 November 2006) Suva, Fiji (21-22 February 2006) Buenos Aires, Argentina (28-30 November 2005)
Countries: Benin, Burkina Faso, Cote d’Ivoire, Guinea, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Togo and Senegal. Ghana, Cameroon, Guinea Bissau and Cape Verde will participate as observer countries. Documents to follow.
