BURUNDI: Children's Ombudsperson

Summary: Information about institutions in Burundi that monitor children's rights.

Children's Ombudsperson

As of July 2008, a draft law for the establishment of a national independent Human Rights Commission was before the Burundian Parliament. Whilst welcoming this draft bill, the Committee on the Rights of the Child expressed concern about the ongoing absence of an independent organisation to monitor the implementation of the CRC. A commission has since been set up, but it is yet to be reviewed by the Committee.
