BURKINA FASO: Children's Ombudsperson

Summary: Information about institutions in Burkina Faso that monitor children's rights.

Children's Ombudsperson

Burkina Faso has no independent body to monitor children's rights, receive complaints or investigate violations of children's rights. The National Commission on Human Rights can formulate opinions on solutions that may remedy a violation, but does not treat complaints so as to resolve them. The Committee on the Rights of the Child has consistently recommended that Burkina Faso reconsider the structure of the National Commission so as to bring it into accordance with the Paris Principles, and empower it to “receive, investigate and address complaints about violations of child rights”.
