BRUNEI DARUSSALAM: Children's Ombudsperson

Summary: Information about institutions in Brunei Darussalam that monitor children's rights.

Children's Ombudsperson

The Committee on the Rights of the Child noted that there are Committees within the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, as well as the National Children's Council tasked with monitoring the implementation of the Convention, and expressed concern that this may lead to duplication of work and a lack of effectiveness. The Committee has also expressed its concern that, as of its 2003 Concluding Observations, there was no independent monitoring mechanism with a mandate to receive individual complaints from children.
