BENIN: Children's Ombudsperson

Summary: Information about institutions in Benin that monitor children's rights.

Children's Ombudsperson

Although the National Commission on the Rights of the Child does play a role in monitoring the implementation of the Convention, Benin does not have an independent, child-focused body with a mandate that includes the power to receive and address individual complaints alleging violations of children's rights. The Committee on the Rights of the Child has recommended that the State establish a human rights institution, a child rights commissioner or a children's ombudsperson in full conformity with the Paris Principles.
