BANGLADESH: Mother Language First (Bangla)

This publication highlights the importance and right of children to begin education in a language they speak and understand - their mother tongue. Indigenous or minority ethnic children are often forced to learn in the national language which they do not speak or understand. This results in high drop out and low enrolment of minority ethnic children in the national education system.

The book discusses multilingual education as a process of quality education which stresses the importance of learning through local language and incorporating local culture. The book is aimed at practitioners, educationalists and policy makers to inform their practice and assist with advocacy.
