The European Forum for Child Welfare has just published a
comparative study on the laws, policies and practices in the 15
Member States of the European Union to protect children against
violence. It addresses issues such as:
Structures and responsibilities in the Member States for policy
development and implementation
Definitions of violence used The legal framework to protect
children against different forms of violence, including rules on
reporting Statistics Services provided to help children recover
from the trauma of abuse and to find missing young people

The objective of this study is to identify the gaps in the provision
of the protection of children and to highlight positive initiatives
and examples of good practice. The study also serves as a user-
friendly handbook for any professional who wants to find out how
it works in other European countries.
