ALBANIA: Children's Ombudsperson

Summary: Information about institutions in Albania that monitor children's rights.

 Children's Ombudspersons

The People's Advocate and the Children's Department within that Office have a role in monitoring and protecting children's rights, but the Committee on the Rights of the Child expressed concern in its 2012 Concluding Observations that the People's Advocate position remained vacant for more than a year, and the Children's Department had gone through periods of inactivity. The Committee was also critical of the lack of resources provided to these bodies, which led to the closure of local offices in Korca and Shkodra in 2008.
