We embarked upon this journey with a rather limited mission that was just about educating Kolkata's street and working children. Over the years a broader vision of integrated child development emerged with its emphasis on families and communities. In due course our work extended to unprotected worker parents of our child beneficiaries, especially their mothers. Our focus has never been purely on service delivery and over time we re-evaluated and changed policies and strategies to suit diverse ground realities.
At the present juncture, we continue to focus sharply on problems of retention and tracking of children in preparatory centres and formal schools. Quality education remains the main challenge. At the same time we are exploring new avenues of capacity-building work.
