Education:-

  • To enhance the literacy rate particularly in minorities, different ALC opened in the Rural Areas of District Rahim Yar Khan. As well as to support the marginalized communities particularly Hindu Children who were discriminated in the area. With the support of Actionaid Pakistan, Jaag Welfare Movement constructed a separate One room School building for the Hindu Children where Education of and music classes are being held.
  • To produce leadership qualities in the children, the morning assembly sessions were regularly initiated in 8 schools where they got physical involvement and discipline on regular time. For effective and interactive assembly sessions, teachers of these schools were provided training for the children PT Training with Drum beat for colorful execution of morning assemblies. It affected the regularity of teachers as well as enhanced the interest of children in school. The leadership qualities were also developed.
  • For participating in extra curricular activities and playing facilities, 20-schools of the area provided sports material. In its continuation, Slide & Swings were also constructed in 4 Schools which made these schools as model and developed interest of children toward learning and ensured attendance.
  • School Teachers of the area were provided different training facilities such as First aid training, Rescue 1122 training, SMC training for effective utilization of fund for school development and support to students in education as well as supported to act in emergencies and first aid medication to the students. For this purpose, 15-first aid medical kits provided to the management of the schools.
  • To change the culture of schools for student’s encouragement and making the environment competitive and to build leadership qualities among the students, different celebrations like national/international days celebrated as well as prize distributions ceremonies organized to promote competition among 20-school students. 
  • To promote the health and hygiene situation in the 20-schools of the area, different learning and health and hygiene promotion programs were organized with specialized Doctors.

Outcomes:
Education Department appreciated all initiatives taken by Jaag Welfare Movement for the promotion of quality education and SMC Training implemented in district level by their end. All these interactive and attractive measures enhanced the enrollment of the students in the schools and SMC fund utilized effectively for development of schools and hesitation of audit observations minimized. Discipline and extra curricular activities now can be seen in common in the schools of the area. In its result, leadership qualities and confidence built among the students. Absenteeism minimized in the schools due to better health & Hygiene awareness and first aid medical facilities.  Discrimination in the area also minimized particularly supportive behavior developed for the Hindu and Christian children.  Teacher behavior also moderated for all students and supportive in education as well as it minimized absenteeism of the teachers in the schools. The big achievement is to collect the basic data regarding the infrastructure of education facilities in the district and especially in the DA Union Councils. As Mr. Fikre Zewdie has given the suggestion to collect the education data (Figure and facts) for Rights Based Approach and make advocacy campaigns for rehabilitation of education system in District and particularly in UCs of DA.

 

Health Achievements:

  • Ultra Sound Machine provided to Basic Health Unit (BHU) of Waha kohana in continuation of previous year initiative including centrifuges machines. It is very expensive facility for the poor community as they are residing far away from city. It improved the existing health structure of the area as well decrease the mortality rate of women.
  • Awareness campaign was initiated for the prevention of Hepatitis and HIV/Aids, broachers and pamphlets were distributed among the community. Theater performed in the DA area to aware the community which had a strong impact to sensitize the people of the rural area. FM radio programs with the help of health department were on air and the message was disseminated on the masses level. people got benefits and made live calls to ask  questions about different diseases
  • Healthy mother & child competitions were organized to sensitize the women about their and children’s health.
  • Eye camps and Medical camps were organized for the seasonal diseases.
  • FM Radio programs given chances to the populace of District to ask their questions on telephone and get prescriptions from specialized Doctors during the program on air. Hundreds of phone calls received during programs and responded accordingly.

 

Outcomes:
In the result of this initiative providing ultra sound to BHU, Govt announced for provision of 100 ultra sound machines in the BHU’s of the District. From safety of STD’s and precautionary measures against these diseases, awareness raised in villagers, barbers, butchers beauticians etc with the coordination of Doctors and through publications as well as interactive theatre performances played a crystal role in awareness raising. Coordination with media and programs on FM Radio that covered the population of whole district is another effective tool used for guiding people of the district. Effective organization of medical camps in the villages of the area in the time of seasonal diseases reduced the spread of diseases such as malaria, dysentery and cholera as well as eye camps and distribution of eye glasses to the needy.    Health conditions in women and in children developed and women sensitized regarding maternity health and regular check ups from specialized doctors instead of TBAs as well as birth registration of their children assured. FM Radio programs given new trend to the populace of district and coordination developed for future working.

Food Hunger and Livelihood's

Achievements:
1. With the coordination of village organizations established in the area, real and actual needs of the area identified and sources for their solution has been addressed to the communities for working and setting guidelines of future. It gives new lights to the villagers for learning and working in coordination with others as well as supported in behavior change toward their fellows and women.
2. The need of growing fresh vegetables at their own whether to purchase from market and its role in poverty alleviation focused and awareness raised about benefits of fresh organic vegetables. Resulting of such motivational and supportive measure reinstalled the trend of growing their own vegetables for income saving and healthy improvement. 
3. Enhancement of beauty of the environment obtained that resulted minimization of pollution and health hazards due to the integration and awareness among the people about tree plantation.
4. Favorable conditions for outbreaks taken to recur periodically, such preventive measures carried out in the area, and the potential consequences of the disease lessened. Practical ways to protect animals executed through volunteer trainings from VO’s and organized programs of vaccination and maintenance of animals that reduced spread of diseases in animals and played a role in their better health. New sights of information and expertise given to the volunteers such as artificial insemination training for the growth of productive livestock animals in the area that will reduce poverty of the area and provide facility at their village level.
5. District level Farmers forum established for the rights of farmers. Different programs organized for awareness raising, new trends of cultivation of crops and acquiring facilities from Govt. Charter of demand has been made formulated and presented in higher forums for future course of action, protest and presentation to parliamentarians and elected members for the solution of problems of Kissan at national level has been taken in action.
6. Awareness given about the un-command land of Government that should be distributed among landless women and poor families of the area for residence and agriculture purposes. For this future plan of action chalked out with Women of the area to pursue Government to implement such mechanism that women get share from parents in the property and to distribute the local land to poor and marginalized women of the area equally. Different seminars, rallies, awareness sessions, journeys organized and charter of demand for land rights to women submitted to federal minister of Human Rights Mr. Mumtaz Alam Gillani in a seminar of District level. Promotion of alternate crops in the area and green house farming also taken as agenda item in the sessions.
7. Practical ways to protect health of women through an organized program of distribution of smokeless stove for motivation. Such preventive measures carried out in advance, and the potential consequences of the disease will thus be lessened and health measures improved in women and children of the area.

 

Outcomes:
Raised awareness on implication of International/National polices to the poor farmer and emerging trend of cultivation of crops has been sensitized. Build stronger network of farmers of the District including farmers of the DA. Sensitization and awareness sessions as well as different programs such as seminars, rallies given confidence to the farmers of the district for raising their voice in a uniform way for their rights and pressure building. Built pressure through media and groups on line departments/Govt for better price of their products. Awareness raising achieved regarding alternate crops in the area and tunnel forming. Purchasing of vegetables from market reduced and trend of its cultivation at their own developed. Trend for plantation of new plants in the season increased for healthy environment. Built pressure for supply of water as per irrigation land in the area as well as for the saline tube wells issue.

 

Youth Development

Achievements:
1.      Computer centers for provision of technical skills to the youth members of the area as well as to girl’s established and different basic 4-months course training given to the groups in their door step and shuffled in other villages after completion from one village. It given new heights of learning of Computer education to many of boys and girls of the area and opened new doors for employment and self earning.
2.      Many youth members (Boys) supported for learning of technical education from Govt technical institutes on fee sharing. It enhanced the skill in the area and become the source of reduction of poverty from area and become source of motivation to others.
3.      Integration among youth of both UC developed for role playing in peace and tolerance level increased to accommodate minorities.
4.      Gender Sensitization of youth members enhanced and coordination of combined working with confidence achieved and increased level of acceptance to others and change in social setup for the participation of their girls in educational activities. 
5.      Promotion of student rights and education in all colleges of District and assembly formation for next one year achieved.

 

 

Outcomes:
Technical skill training enhances the motivation level of our Youth for their self development. Resistance for girls and women for participation in activities of Jaag Welfare Movement removed and confidence of parents developed toward their girls and women and ultimately enhanced trust among families. These girls and women given permission for participation in many learning activities, seminars, exposure programs, educational extra activities etc.  Formation of Women Youth Committees enables women and girls of the area for awareness raising and for their rights. Social change toward women, girls and gender sensitizations obtained. Establishment of technical centers and support for technical education developed trend for education after basic school education and participation in employment activities. Continuation of activities with the youth for permanent change is required in future.

 

 

Governance

Achievements:
1.      As the District Nazim was not calling the meetings of Nazimeen of District for different issues and for budget, so after campagn with Nazimeen and coverage in media and protest, District Nazim called the meeting of Nazimeen of District Rahim Yar Khan and clarify the situation and given assurance for participation of Nazimeen in the budget preparation. As well as due to the petition and raising issues by Jaag Welfare Movement with the society and press, District Naib Nazim Hasnain Zafar Warraich has resigned from his seat. New Political scenario was also a factor of his resignation. 
2.      1000 Copies of District profile Rahim Yar Khan published after revision of previous addition published in year 2004 with the current fact & figures. It is great source of current and detailed information about District Rahim Yar Khan. Now a valid & reliable district profile is available for future references.
3.      Celebration of labor day and International Press freedom day with the labor unions and other civil society members for showing collaboration with laborers and press people in their efforts and for their rights. As cancellation of IRO-2002 is the success of Labor and their unions as well as the organizations working for human rights. Supporting the media representatives also given them confidence and coordination for helping the needy and supporting for promotion of rights. Celebration of Mothers day organized and different sessions for promotion of efforts of Mothers and to solute them organized in many sessions as well as for awareness raising.
4.     Movement for abolition of unnecessary customs/traditions in Hindu community has been launched with the formation of community groups and different awareness & sensitization sessions organized for their development. For the solution of Hindu women issues, MPA Maiza Hameed Gujjar participated in many of women related programs and promised for full of her support in their issues. Now the Hindu & Christian groups are more stable and stronger in their area of living and learned better style of living and availing growth opportunities. Their efforts up streaming to Govt officials for provision of sources and facilities to them.
5.     As there is the major issue of Hindu Community for raising voice for acceptance of their marriage registration bill in parliament. After continuation efforts, Minister of Human rights Mr. Mumtaz Alam Gillani accepted their bill of marriage registration and promised for discussion in Parliament and with ministry of Law for making ordinance for this purpose. Mr. Minister also visited Rahim Yar Khan and participated in seminar for women land rights and announced in favor of bill in a press conference.
6.      Jaag Welfare Movement established his own Log Jagarti Theatre team for awareness raising on different issue by using interactive tool of awareness and performed many theater performances in many sessions for whole year.
7.      A network of dismissed feeder teachers developed for their reinstatement and ultimately many of teachers reinstated from NCHD and from Govt.
8.      Different national/international and local issues discussed in many sessions with the community organizations for awareness raising and consensus building on their issues and political thinking.
9.      Awareness and pressure building seminar and program organized for finding the way for solution of problems of saraiki wasaib and their language development as well as consensus building for starting primary education in mother tongue such as Punjabi with the coordination of Punjab Network of Primary education in mother tongue.
10. Supported to jail officials for making Jail area hazard free and given fire extinguishers as well as supported to Darul Amaan for the welfare of women residing there. These were initiatives taken with social welfare department for motivation of others and proper facilities by the concerned department and developing sense of accountability.
11. Different capacity building programs initiated for staff and executive body of Jaag and Executive body.
12. Awareness raising regarding the importance of birth registration and sensitization and supported in the work of Hindu leading groups. Birth registration of many children of Hindu community has been made as initiative and now the remaining are registering by their own as well as trend for making computerized Identity cards developed in them. 
13. Student assembly sessions organized with the students of all colleges of district and given different topics for debate in different programs. Prizes and other motivational measures taken for development of education and confidence building measures among students.
14. Pattan Manara Movement now achieving its target as the archeology department officials visited the site many times and announced it as a hertance. Now the latest development is as the newly building water treatment plant has been turned to other side for the safety of Pattan Manara and District Government is taken many measures for its safety and development.

 

 

Outcomes:
Supported the Nazimeen of District in their issues and ultimately consensus developed for combined working for the development of district and budget planning awareness and their participation assured. Accountability at all levels enhanced and with the support of this activity toward good governance, people has been awared about the character of District Assembly and working of the House. Publication of District Profile of Rahim Yar Khan is a valid and reliable for Govt and NGO’s and it will support for information about the district. It also covered the information about the resources available and gaps where Govt & NGO’s should take initiatives for development. It covered the information at UC (122) level about education, gender based information with vote, political, geographic, health and all other areas of information covered. With the celebration of national/international and local cultural days enhanced level of tolerance and acceptance to others as well as it given lessons about the importance of these days and promotion of rights. Abolition of unnecessary customs such as marriage customs, social evils and attitude toward women/girls has been minimized and people are aware and have supportive attitude in all above. Marriage registration bill has been formulated and handed over to the members of parliament (Minister of Human Rights Mr. Mumtaz Alam Gillani) and they promised for presentation in parliament for acceptance. Interactive tools like establishment of Log Jaagarti theatre and its performances in many events raised the awareness and created long lasting effect on community about violation of women rights, education, health, food rights, good governance and to combat human smuggling. After a long campaign and sessions for reinstatement of dismissed feeder teachers of NCHD, now the majority of feeder teachers reinstated in Govt schools and the work of NCHD coordinated under Govt Education department. Peoples dialogue arranged on different national, international and local issues for the support of poor and for acquiring facilitation for them. In the result of vote registration, national identity cards, majority of the population of the area assured in vote registration as well as NID and trend for birth registration enhanced. Consumer rights committees established for working against price hike and media reporting. Group meetings for developing of a charter and syllabus for primary education in mother tongue is in process for forwarding to Provincial assembly for discussion and implementation. Parliamentarians were also participated in our sessions and they agreed for lobbying in assembly. Due to material support to jail and Darul Amman as well as due to highlighting the negligence’s of Govt regarding the provision of facilities, now the Govt is taking actions for betterment of environment and provision of facilities. Pattan Manara has been saved and announced as heritance of area and taken under the supervision of Archeology Dept. Different VO’s of the area has been given trainings for their development and sensitization for uplifting the community. Boost up the development activities in the area and awareness raising.
Entertainment to Children and celebration of District level children festival given new trend to the area for entertainment and awareness raising for better growth of children for secure future of Pakistan. Awareness about meaningful and dignified name enhanced and names of Hindu people changed with their consensus.

 

 

Interfaith, Peace & Conflict 

Achievement:
1.      Different interfaith harmony sessions organized with the religious scholars of the area for promotion of peace and harmony among all groups and religions resulting the increase of tolerance level among religious scholars and their followers.
2.      Acceptance level of minorities and participation in the celebrations enhanced among all religious groups. It improves the attitude with minorities and promotion of peace.
3.      Induction of combined religious celebrations and national/international days such as cultural festivals, deepwali, Xmas, Eid, combined playing competitions enhanced tolerance level and role playing for peace development among religious scholars, civil society members, political leaders, professors, students and minority groups. It helps to improve the attitude and promotion of peace. Coordination among all sectors of Rahim yar khan developed for working on peace in future.
4.      Formations of village level groups achieved who will continue the peace work in the area and play their role in resolution of their internal issues. These groups played role in elimination of old traditions that resist them in their growth and participation in developmental activities.

 

Outcomes:
Religious teaching / rights of other faiths were planned which enlightened the view of all religious groups to all rural people especially women. Formation of Aman (Peace) Committees resulting peaceful environment in the area and become the source of liberty to all in their faith with out conflicts. As the religious is a most sensitive issue in most of the people, so human rights values were highlighted among them on forums as we all are first human and then segregated in different religions, cast, color etc.
Restrictive primitive folks, old traditions and oral culture of minority tried  minimized and given new heights of growth and development. Jaag Welfare Movement given material benefits and advocacy for awareness of this section to the society so that they acquired the basic needs of the society and compete in the advance world.
