Gruppo di Lavoro per la Convenzione sui diritti dell'infanzia e dell'adolescenza

The Italian Working Group on the CRC is an informal network of about 80 associations.

The Italian Working Group on the CRC was formed in December 2000, with the priority of drawing up an NGO report on the condition of children’s rights in Italy. The Supplementary Report "The Rights of Childhood and Adolescence in Italy – the third sector perspective" was presented on November 2001 and subscribed by 44 Italian associations and NGOs. A delegation took part to the Pre-session on October 2002 and to the Session with the UN Committee on the CRC on January 2003.

In December 2004 the Working Group on the CRC published the booklet "CRC Monitoring in Italy: a Practical Guide for the Third Sector" The Guide, intended as a tool for all associations working with or for children, is designed to help know the CRC principles and the reporting mechanism, and to facilitate cooperation in the activities of the Working Group on the CRC.

The Working Group decided to prepare a annual Follow-up Report on the implementation of the Rights of the child and the UN Committee’s Recommendations to Italy. The Report will focus on specific issues that will be selected as they will be considered to be particularly important in that specific point in time. Thus, the Follow up Report is the major instrument for the Group’s monitoring action. The first Follow up Report was published on 27th of May 2005 on the anniversary of the Italian ratification of the CRC.

The Working Group chose to include the information concerning the implementation of the Ops in two chapters of the 2005 follow up Report. A delegation took part to the pre-session with the UN Committee regarding the Ops on October 2005.
