AVERT

AVERT is a leading UK AIDS Education
and Medical Research charity. We are
responsible for a wide range of
education and medical research work
with the overall aim of:

preventing people from becoming infected with
HIV,
improving the quality of life of those already
infected, through medical research working to
develop a cure for AIDS. The AVERT web site was started in 1995. It
currently consists of over 150 pages of
information, and is accessed by more than
30,000 people a week from almost every
country in the world.

These are just a few of the things
that people have said about the site:

"Your wonderful site has even given
me ideas on how to teach kids about
this ever-spreading disease"

"Thank God, I've found a site where I
can talk about how I feel about
being HIV+ve. And a site where I can
hear other women tell their stories …
They have made me have hope"

"Being gay is not easy and finding
out about things is very hard, but
this site has given me everything I
need to know"

The final part of AVERT's education
work is the "Making A Difference"
grant scheme. This provides financial
help to projects which will either
prevent people becoming infected, or
which will provide improved care for
people who are HIV positive. AVERT
currently funds projects in a number
of different countries including South
Africa, China and England.AIDS Virus Education and Research Trust
