AIDS is the number one killer in Africa, with more than 6,000 people dying there every day.  In response to this crisis, AFAID was founded in 2000 to increase awareness about HIV, its transmission, and its prevention among youth residing in Sub-Saharan Africa.  With a variety of targeted programs, the organization works to prevent the spread of HIV through education, the distribution of condoms, counseling, and theatrical presentations.  AFAID also works with community partners in Africa to ensure that infected children—many of whom are orphans—receive educational and vocational training, supplemental food, and access to adequate health care.
